Composting Your Reusable Dishcloths

Composting Your Reusable Dishcloths

It's been months since you've had your Reusable Dishcloth from Brick and Beryl. And now you're noticing they are starting to look a little rough ... loved, but rough!
These little guys have served you well- in your kitchen and bathrooms- saving you tons of money on paper towels, shining silverware, glasses, swooping up spills on countertops and floors, polishing chrome and fixtures. They've even gone in between shower doors, where nothing absorbent has ever gone before!
A faithful household item to be sure and it's hard to say goodbye
Composting reusable dishcloths that are totally biodegradable.

Goodbyes don't always have to be sad. Actually, our Reusable Dishcloths are gifts that keep on giving ... this time to your garden!

Yes! Our Reusable Dishcloths are 100% compostable and biodegradable. They are made of 70% wood pulp (cellulose=plant material) and 30% cotton. The inks in the design are non-toxic and can be safely sewn into your compost bin.

As you can see above, I dug a little 8 inch deep or so trench on the side of the garden and decided to sew my old rags directly into the dirt.

I cut them up to speed up the process of breaking down the compostable dishcloths.

It's very satisfying to know that we don't have to contribute to the landfills- at least in this area of taking care of our household. These Dishcloths have served me and my family well- and they will continue to do so in the future. Win! Win!

Not only have we saved a lot of money because we didn't have to use anywhere near the amount of paper towels used before (they are expensive!). Plus, there are no smelly rags to contend with and our fixtures look great- no spots!

Popular questions:

How long before you compost them? We personally get the most life out of them as possible. But, it really just depends on how much you use them and for what kinds of clean up. We usually get 3-5 months on average (perhaps longer if they are used in a spare bathroom, etc.)

How often do we wash ours? We pop them in to the dishwasher whenever we run it or put them into the washing machine (just don't dry them- they will last longer).

They make great gifts! And, we hear that the hook they come up with is a game changer for drying. Shop now
